Q - How do I colonize other islands?
A - First you have to build a shipyard and a landingdock on your current territorium, near the water. Then build at least one transportship and one tradingship to begin with. Send of transportships with pioneers to the new island, and take the land. Then send away a bunch of hammers and shovels with the transportship, using the landingdock, to the island. Send also a lot of wood and stone to the island so you can build houses later on.

When you have taken enough land with your pioneers, transform them back into settlers again, and build the basic buildings (sawmill, woodcutter etc) to get things going. The settlers will then take the tools and build your houses. Start up the colony as you normally starts on a map, but don't forget the old country, and pretty soon should you have got everything running smoothly.

Q - My residences are not giving me any new settlers. And the one I've got doesn't do any work.
A - See to that you don't destroy your residences after the settlers have left them. If they don't have a place to live, they will go on strike. If this happens, and you build a new residence, it will not give you a full amount of settlers, since the ones that didn't have a home before, moves in to the new house.

Q - How does the promoting of the soldiers work?
A - To be able to promote your soldiers, ie "upgrading" them, you will need to sacrifice alchoholic beverages to the Gods. For this do you have to build some sort of farm, that makes the base of the beverage, such as a grain farm, or a rice farm. This is different depending on your race. And if you are playing the asians, you'll need to build a rice farm close to a swamp, since that is where the rice will grow.

The grain or rice will then move on to a destillery, from where a beverage will be delivered to a small temple. From there on will the Gods take care of the alchohol, and then giving you better soldiers.

When you have offered the Gods enough to drink, you can promote one of your soldier types. Under the Settlers - Recruitment menu, can you see how your promoting is going. Only new soldiers will be promoted, and for each promotion will it take longer time until the counter reaches 100%.

Q - I have problem with sending goods via trade ship to another island. Do you have any idea how to do it?
A - What you have to do first is to build a shipyard, so that you later on can build ships. In the near, you should also construct a landing dock. After that, you build a transport ship so that you'll be able to transport merchendise. In the landingdock menu, a list of all the merchendise you can transport over water will appear. Pick out the things you want to move, and a target for the merchendise. Remember that if the merchendise will have to be transported over land as wellm you have to put up road signs where you see the water. After that it will work by it self.

Q - I can't recruit any soldiers!
A - If you have enough free settlers, and plenty of weapons lying by your barracks, you should make sure that you haven't set the recruiting to "manual" and if so, try and recruit some soldiers. Otherwise, there's nothing to do but to burn your barracks and build a new one. This is a bug in Settlers 3, and it just happens. The settlers will then move the weapons to the new barracks and you will be able to recruit soldiers.

Q - Hello.....I'd like to ask you if you know anything about the bug wich converts my metal into pigs?
A - This is a part of the copy protection in the game. But if you have this problem and you have the original copy, you should be careful since your harddrive most likely is infected by the CIH-virus. Download the AVP-virus cleaner (available in our download section), search and remove all the viruses found, reinstall the game, and download and install the 1.23 patch, and you'll have no problems in the future (hopefully).

Q - Could you mail me a serial number for settlers 3? I lost mine!!! f*cking washing machine!!! ?
A - An actual mail sent to Roberth. But it's only one of many mails from people using/making illegal copies of S3 around the world.
If it's true that you have washed your Settlers 3 instruction book, please write a mail to Blue Byte, and see if they can do anything about this..

Q - When I build woodcutter and gets it works, the woodcutter cuts all the trees... So what do I do? I build a forester, but the woodcutter does NOT cut the trees, what am I doing wrong?
A - This is one of the bugs in the first version of the game. Download the latest patch or a later one, and the problem will disappear. If the problem still occurs, you should contact Blue Byte since there are some people with this problem, and they are having trouble finding the reason for it. Therefore can't we give you any new information.

Q - Are all this junk around the map there for a reason?
A - The shipwrecks and graves aren't just on the map for their "beauty". The roman priests needs shipwrecks in the near so that they can transform iron into gold. The asian priests wants graves so that the stone can be turned into iron. And the egyptians use mushrooms to turn fish into meat.

Q - I wanna play multi-player but I can't find players and I don't know how to open a multi-player game.
A - First of all, you'll have to create a new player by clicking on New Playes and choose a password to your specific player. After that you just join and woops, a new screen appears where you can choose between different channels, such as the english channel (haha), and you can see how many players that are online on that channel. After that you'll have to try and find some nice people to play with..

Q - Could you tell me how to take a screen shot? With a digital camera or from the computer?
A - This is one of many questions I have got about screenshots and of course I don't use a digital camera (the picture should become too bad to use). You just use the computer. Press down the "Print Scrn"- button when you want to take a screenshot. You find the button to the right from F12. After you made this you start a drawing program. In the program you click Ctrl+V to paste the picture. You can also choose paste in the menu, under edit.

Q - Why don't the geologists/pioneers start working?
A - This is not a strange thing you just haven't told them to start looking after minerals/ take land. To tell to start you do like this: Click on the 'find resources' or 'take land' button when they are in the area you want them to work in. A shortcut for this is to press your right mouse button while holding down the ALT key on the area where they should begin work.
